Over the last few weeks, we have seen some fantastic progress in each of the classes. Reading levels have increased and students are showing some excellent mathematical thinking when problem solving. Thanks goes to the teachers who have been working hard on refining their teaching strategies and ensuring students are highly engaged in their learning. Check out our Learning Ladder piece later in the newsletter for more information!
Big Ideas in Number
Last Monday the staff attended a training day on “Big Ideas in Number’. We focused on trusting the count and place value. The staff were joined by neighbouring schools in looking at ways to strengthen these concepts in the classroom. Trusting the count (E.g. trusting that 3 and 3 is 6, with out having to count all) is one area that we identified that we can delve deeper into, emerging students in experiences that strengthen their trust in counting and giving them opportunities to transfer their learning into other contexts.
In these unprecedented times, Foodbank is calling on the community to make donations to help people in need. We will set up a donations box in the front office for people to donate any pantry items. These include rice, pasta, tinned tomato, canned fruit, canned veggies, canned tuna, jams and spreads, long life milk and breakfast cereal. We will also hold a casual clothes day later in the term to raise money for this great cause. Thank you in advance for your support with this cause.
