Dear South East Primary Schools’ Music Festival students and families,
It is with a touch of sadness that we write to let you know a decision has been made to cancel the South East Primary School Music Festival performances this year due to the current COVID-19 restrictions.
Initially we were hopeful that we could provide a concert series for our students and families.
However, current restrictions, protocols and social distancing requirements mean that we are not in a position to provide a quality choral production and ensure the safety of all performers, orchestra, crew and audience.
This decision has been supported by a recommendation from our local Education Office to cancel the performances in 2020.
This has not been an easy decision. Choir trainers and executive have met regularly to try to find a way to make our concert performances work. Ultimately the safety of our students and families is our number one priority. This is disappointing for all involved and we understand that there will be some students upset by this decision. We are hopeful that individual schools or clusters of schools will be able to provide a smaller scale performance. This will be a locally made decision and not an expectation from the South East Primary Schools’ Music Festival executive.
Despite the disappointment of 2020 we are already discussing how we can make up for it in 2021 and hopefully get our music festival students back on the big stage.
Regards
Sam Griffith
President
